The micro (four thirds) revolution

Well, goodness me, what a long time since I wrote anything significant, not just here, but just about anywhere. And that’s fine, because taking a break from words was obviously just what I needed. The break actually extended to my photography as well. Tired spirit, tired eyes. Above all, tired muscles and joints that made carting around my heavy, clunky Canon D90 DSLR exhausting. Sometimes painful. Not exactly conducive to revelling in the delights of nature. So I decided. Enough is enough. A week or so ago I finally plucked up the courage to retire my DSLR gear in favour of the smallest and lightest of the mirrorless systems around, and the one most highly prized for precisely the macro photography that is my dearest love. Welcome to my life the OM System, with the OM1 MKII camera and 60 mm macro lens, soon to be joined by the 90 mm, probably the best macro lens around at the moment. It was love at first sight. Light, agile, versatile and complicated enough to keep me challenged. These are just some of the shots from the first few outings. Not bad for a completely new system, and certainly enough to rekindle my motivation and enthusiasm. Watch this space!
